WebP (pronounced weppy) is an open raster digital image format for use on the web (derived from the VP8 video format and a sister project to the WebM format), developed by Google, with the aim of reducing file sizes, ensuring faster and higher-quality transfer for those with slow internet, as it combines the best features of other image formats, such as the possibility of file compression (similar to JPEG), the ability to use transparency (similar to PNG), and support for animations (similar to GIF).
