JPEG
JPG (or JPEG) is a common method used to compress photographic images. The degree of reduction can be adjusted, allowing you to choose the storage size and your level of compromise with image quality. Generally, you get a compression with little noticeable loss of image quality. In addition to being a compression method, it is often considered a file format. JPEG/Exif is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other image capture devices, along with JPEG/JFIF, which is also another format for storing and transmitting images on the World Wide Web. JPEG/JFIF is the format used to store photographs and transmit them over the Internet. Generally, the formats are disregarded and we simply say JPEG. The acronym comes from the name "Joint Photographic Experts Group", which is the group responsible for the JPEG standard.
